How much is a taxi from Paddock Wood to Gatwick?
A taxi from Paddock Wood to Gatwick Airport is a fixed £75 with Paddock Wood Airport Taxis, agreed at booking rather than metered. It is about 39 miles away, a drive of roughly an hour. Gatwick’s own drop-off charge starts from £7 and is paid at the barrier, separate from our fare.
Gatwick is the cheapest and most straightforward of the five airports from Paddock Wood. Drivers head out towards the A21 and pick up the A264 through the Tunbridge Wells and East Grinstead direction before joining the approach roads into the airport. It is a mix of A-road and dual carriageway rather than a motorway slog, so it rarely gridlocks outright, but the Tunbridge Wells stretch does thicken during the morning school run.
What about the train?
Paddock Wood has its own station, and for one person travelling light in the middle of the day, the train to Gatwick can genuinely be the cheaper option. We would rather say that plainly than pretend the taxi is the only way. Where the arithmetic changes is passenger count and luggage: two or more people splitting our £75 fare, or bags heavy enough to make a change of train miserable, usually costs less door to door than separate tickets plus the walk between platforms.
It also changes completely for an early flight. A 6am departure means a pickup from Paddock Wood well before the first train of the day runs, which is when the fixed fare stops being a comparison and starts being the only option that exists.
Two terminals, one fare
Gatwick runs North and South terminals, linked by a shuttle. Both cost the same £75 — there is no surcharge either way — but tell us which you need when you book. Being dropped at the wrong one costs the shuttle ride and roughly fifteen minutes you may not have.
For arrivals we track the inbound flight and set the pickup against the actual landing time. Your driver meets you inside the terminal and helps with luggage as standard.
Gatwick publishes its current drop-off charges, terminal maps and live flight information on its official site at gatwickairport.com. Those airport-set charges are separate from our fare.
Gatwick Transfer Pricing

| Estate | Up to 4 | Four cases, golf clubs, pushchair | £75 |

The £75 is confirmed before you travel and does not change for traffic, the hour or a delayed landing. The only extra is Gatwick’s own drop-off charge, from £7, collected at the barrier.

Gatwick Transfer Questions
How much does a taxi to Gatwick cost?
From Paddock Wood it is a fixed £75 with Paddock Wood Airport Taxis, covering up to four passengers in a saloon or estate. The price is confirmed at booking and does not move afterwards. Gatwick’s own drop-off charge, from £7, is collected separately at the barrier.
Is the train cheaper than a taxi to Gatwick?
For one person travelling light at a reasonable hour, it can be. For two or more passengers, heavy luggage, or a flight outside normal train hours, the fixed £75 door-to-door fare usually costs less once tickets and a change of train are counted.
Does Uber operate in Paddock Wood?
Yes, since Tunbridge Wells Borough Council granted a licence covering Paddock Wood in July 2025. It is a real option now, but pricing moves with live demand rather than being fixed — which matters most at the early hours most Gatwick departures need.
What is cheaper from the airport, a taxi or Uber?
A pre-booked taxi is usually more predictable, because app fares rise with live demand and airport runs happen at peak demand hours. Paddock Wood Airport Taxis holds the fare at £75 whether you leave at 4am or midday, and whether your inbound flight is on time or three hours late.
Which Gatwick terminal do you cover?
Both. North and South are the same £75 with no surcharge either way. Tell us which when you book, because they are separate buildings linked by a shuttle and being dropped at the wrong one costs time you may not have.
Is the Gatwick drop-off charge included in the fare?
No. The drop-off charge is set and collected by Gatwick Airport, not by us, and starts from £7 depending on how long the vehicle stays in the drop-off zone. Your £75 covers the journey itself.
Can I hire an 8-seater taxi to Gatwick Airport?
Yes. We run minibuses for group transfers from Paddock Wood to Gatwick, typically six to eight passengers with a case each. Group fares are quoted individually because passenger numbers and luggage volume change the vehicle needed.
Is it easy to get a taxi at Gatwick for the journey home?
There is a rank, but you queue and the fare can climb if the roads are slow. Booking the return alongside the outbound leg fixes it at £75, ties the pickup to your flight number, and puts a driver inside the terminal rather than you hunting one outside.
Should I pre-book a taxi to the airport?
Yes, particularly for an early departure. Same-day cars are not guaranteed, especially before dawn when the station is not yet running. Booking ahead secures the vehicle and locks the £75.
What happens if my flight is delayed?
Nothing you need to manage. Give us the flight number at booking and we monitor it, then move the pickup ourselves so your driver arrives when you actually land. The £75 does not change because of a delay.
